One night at the Loi Krathong festival in Chiang Mai, the air was cool and pleasant, filled with the smell of incense and flowers. Nara walked alone past people who were lighting sky lanterns. She felt lonely because she was far from her family in Bangkok.
An old man smiled at her and said, “Young lady, don’t forget to write your dreams on the lantern before you release it, okay?” The old man replied, “Because the sky lantern will carry our hopes up to the sky, and sometimes the sky answers back in the most beautiful way.” Nara smiled, quickly wrote her wish, and released the lantern up into the sky.
From that day on, she understood that Thai traditions are not just rituals, but a way to pass hope and dreams on to one another.
